On the 6th April we will be celebrating Chakri Memorial Day at the Thai Orchid. SO if you can’t get to Thailand then visit us instead and have a traditional Thai Meal instead.
What is Chakri Memorial Day?
Chakri Memorial Day is one of the main holiday in Thailand and is to commemorate the founding of the Chakri Dynasty by Phra Phutthayotfa Chulalok (Rama I) who reigned from 20 March 1737 – 7 September 1809 and established Bangkok as the capital of Thailand.
How we celebrate
Generally this is a religious festival and all over Thailand there are religious ceremonies held to commemorate the Chakri Kings with an emphasis on Rama I.
If you’re in Thailand then a fantastic place to be is the Grand Palace in Bangkok. Throughout the day you will see the national flag proudly raised and offerings of flowers will be placed at the statues of the past kings.
